OUR HISTORY We, Jerry and Charmaine Traylor, created Traylor Motor Homes, Inc. in October 1978. We started the business as a hobby renting our own motor home. We never believed that 30 years later we would have a thriving RV dealership renting, selling and servicing motor homes, 5th wheels and travel trailers. Our first motor home purchase was a unit that had significant dry rot damage due to years of sitting in the previous owner’s backyard. We completely refurbished the motor home by replacing and repairing the roof, plumbing, upholstery and curtains. After traveling, camping, and using the unit for several years, we decided to purchase a later model RV. Since we only traveled on weekends and holidays, we began renting our motor home. We placed ads in the newspaper and returned rental request calls when we came home from our full-time jobs. Everything was going so well that we started telling other RV owners and became leasing agents for their units. In September 1983, we moved the business from our home to our first location in Cedar Hill. Charmaine quit her job at Riekes Container Company to manage the rental office and the following year we expanded our business to include the sale of Esterel travel trailers. To manage the growing sales department, Jerry resigned from his position with Joseph T. Ryerson Steel Company in November 1987 and moved into a new sales office approximately 8 months later. On December 31, 2007, we closed our Cedar Hill location and opened the doors of our new dealership in Palmer on February 18, 2008. Our company has grown to include service, repairs, parts, supplies, storage and propane due to our staff’s hard work and perseverance. Yet, none of this would have been possible without the support of our customers. THANK YOU! Jerry and Charmaine Traylor |
